Choosing a Contractor

Your home is your greatest investment. Your family, dreams and aspirations reside there. So it is vitally important when making any decision that affects the value and livability of your investment to thoroughly check out the people you entrust your future to. This is especially important when contracting services for any type of home remodel. It doesn't matter whether you are simply replacing a window casing or remodeling your kitchen. In Oregon all contractors are required by law to be licensed, bonded and insured. Any contractor you seek out should be able to provide you with his Contractor's Board number (see ours at the upper left corner of this page. When you click on the # it will link you to the CCB. Type in our number in the space provided and you will see our CCB status.), bond and insurance coverage. Any person representing themselves as properly licensed, bonded and insured, yet refusing to provide this information should be avoided. In addition, you should report them to the authorities. A trustworthy contractor should not hesitate to provide you with referrals. Don't be afraid to contact your local Better Business Bureau. You have the right and the duty to your family to expect honest, fair and properly licensed business practices when contracting for these services. Service providers such as "Angie's List" are another resource you may avail yourself of.

The State of Oregon's Construction Contractors Board has provided a valuable tool for the public when making decisions about contrator services. You should read and study the document they have prepared. To view this document, click here: Consumer Help
